Pre-School Swim Lessons
Pre-School Swim Lessons offer children their first experience in the pool without parental assistance. Children are taught basic skills that are the building blocks of swimming. Children learn about pool safety and the use of personal flotation devices. A caring swim instructor teaches the 30-minute class. The Pre-School programs ranges in ages from 3 years old to 5 years old.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:

Pike A
This level is for the beginner. Children at this level may be apprehensive and cling to the teacher. They may not be able to move freely through the water without the aid of an instructor. The main emphasis in Pike A is to help the child develop safe pool behavior, adjust to the water, and develop independent movement in the water. |

Pike B
This level is designed for new swimmers, teaching basic paddle stroke and kicking skills, floating, pool safety, proper use of PFDs, and comfort with holding the face in the water while blowing bubbles and swimming. |

Eel
This is an intermediate level for the swimmer who can move throughout the water independently with or without the aid of a bubble. Children should be able to swim 10 yards. On the front, back and side with a flotation aid and 5 ft. without. Children are taught to float and perform the progressive paddle stroke. They also learn basic use of PFDs. Children must swim across the pool, 25 yards without assistance in order to move to next swim level. |

Ray
This level is a more advanced level for the child who can swim on their front, back and side 25 yards without a flotation aid. Ray works to improve stoke skills (including rotary breathing), learn more personal safety, rescue skills, and build endurance by swimming on their front and back. Breast stroke is also introduced. |

Family YMCA Pool Policies
- We reserve the right to limit the number of class participants depending on the use of the pool for other programs.
- We reserve the right to combine classes due to low enrollment. A minimum of five students is required to run a class.
- Parent Observation Days are limited to the first and last day of each session
- If you are a non-member, program participant ID cards will be distributed at time of registration. Present these cards to the Welcome Center staff to gain access to the facility each time you attend a class during cycle.
